here are a lot of foodies that like to cook, but there are few culinary-crazed characters like Chef Jami! While spending nearly 20 years working as a Marketing & Advertising professional, Jami spent countless hours taking evening classes, courses and weekend excursions pursuing her There are a lot of foodies that like to cook, but there are few culinary-crazed characters like Chef Jami! passion for cooking. Finally Chef Jami decided to “get serious” about things and turned that passion into a profession in 2006 after she graduated from the Culinary Business Academy located in New Mexico.
“The formal culinary training has been invaluable,” states Chef Jami, “but my talent for cooking really has been finely tuned through years of self-instruction, experimentation and practice.”
By her own admission Chef Jami reads cookbooks like novels, yet rarely follows the recipes. “I am inspired by recipes, but bored if I follow them too closely,” she says. Her culinary guideposts are Julia Childs, Graham Kerr and a 47-year-old edition of Larousse Gastronomique. Additionally, Chef Jami has been inspired By her own admission Chef Jami reads cookbooks like novels, yet rarely follows the recipes. and influenced by life experiences: growing up in a predominantly German community (Milwaukee, WI); living ten years in the Southwest (Tucson, AZ); and working for a small, family-owned Italian pasta import company – “a wonderful family that taught me so much about the cuisine and the culture and the character of authentic Italian food.”
Now living in Austin, Texas, Chef Jami and her husband are avid runners competing in marathons, half-marathons and triathlons. “Your diet changes a lot when you train,” states Chef Jami, “the things I have learned about nutrition and diet for training as well as about raw and living food has made me a better athlete and a better chef – it has helped my clients significantly too.”
